Mine didn't and the nuts weren't cracked and seem to work just fine following the directions in the pamphlet to use water softener if you have hard water and oxidizer if you are washing whites. Soaps looked like the picture once they were wet more than what they looked like before but they weren't ugly and shriveled like another sites picture of them. So far have just used the liquid extreme on the cold water items. Just fine results - no issues at all. These are generous samples that will last you for weeks (or more depending on your laundry loads piled up). Everything came out clean and didn't smell like anything vinegary.

The soap looked a bit dry but its lasting as long as my shea butter soap from someone else. Smells a bit funny but you don't smell like it when you get out of the shower. The box smelled nice.
